Where Mantra comes from

Knowing that every individual brings their own history, context and considerations - Mantra seeks to encourage you to deepen your intuitive connection - know thy self best. Foster curiosity, explore and develop your own relationships with the plants that support your well-being. Only you know what it's like to be you. Find your friends, rewrite your future.

Plants are approached as part of broader personal practices rather than as solutions in themselves. Mantra emphasises discernment, informed choice and respect for the complexity of human experience.

The purpose of Mantra is to support education, transparency and responsible engagement. Rather than directing or prescribing, it encourages individuals to listen closely, reflect deeply and make choices that feel aligned for them.

A personal lineage

Mantra was never about creating a product — it was about creating space. Space to slow down, reconnect, and return to balance.

Cat AndersonMANTRA

Mantra was founded by Cat Anderson, whose work sits at the intersection of plant knowledge, education, advocacy and community care.

Her relationship with plants has been shaped through years of lived experience, facilitation, study and research engagement, as well as ongoing dialogue with growers, educators and traditional knowledge holders. This work has included education and advocacy around responsible plant practices in South Africa, alongside the creation of spaces where intention, safety and discernment are prioritised.

Cat’s approach is deliberately “low and slow”; emphasising preparation, education and reflection. She advocates for informed participation and careful integration of experiences into everyday life. Optional individual support is offered in the form of reflective coaching, focused on grounding, context and personal insight rather than treatment or intervention.

Mantra is an extension of this philosophy. It reflects a commitment to transparency, ethical restraint and responsibility; avoiding exaggerated language, implied outcomes or prescriptive direction.

While Cat works primarily behind the scenes with growers, production processes, governance structures and advisory networks, she remains closely involved in the ethical direction of the brand. Her role is to ensure that as Mantra grows, it continues to prioritise education, integrity and trust above scale or speed.

How we work with plants

We do not treat plants as products that promise outcomes.  There is no magic potion, no silver bullet to instant healing.

Some of the plants we work with have a growing body of modern research. Others are held primarily through cultural lineage and lived experience. We believe both forms of knowledge matter.  Which is why we draw from all sources of wisdom to form our own.

Where research exists, we share it transparently. Where evidence is still emerging, we say so clearly. We avoid language that turns plants into solutions or shortcuts.

Our offerings are designed to support everyday wellbeing through consistency, intention and care.

A clear boundary

Mantra offerings are not called "medicines" as they are not synthesised in a laboratory. They are wellness products made from plants using the best, gentlest practices to extract the medicinal potency from each.

Mantra exists to offer people safe, gentle and highly effective alternatives to chronic medications, limited and outdated methodologies of cognitive therapy and stimulants such as tobacco and alcohol. Mantra seeks to enhance your healing journey with complementary support to modalities that focus on healing the whole Self.

We recognise that pharmaceutical and clinical care can be necessary and life-saving for many people. Mantra does not position itself as an alternative to medical treatment.

Our role is to offer plant-based support for general wellbeing, within a broader context of informed choice and personal responsibility.

Why ritual matters

Perhaps the word “ritual” conjures up imagined scenes of naked woo-woo voodoo.  If this is what’s happening for you right now, I invite you to this perception reset:

You already have plenty of rituals.   They are built into your everyday.  From how you take care of your body, to how you prepare for your day.  Be it in the boardroom or on the beach, you have already sewn many a ritualistic thread into the fabric of your life.

Sometimes it is simply a pause. A breath. A moment of intention woven into an ordinary day.

A “mantra” is something simple and meaningful that we repeat for ourselves on the daily.  At Mantra, we design our offerings to be just that – simple and meaningful, able to fit into real lives, be adapted with changing seasons and forgiving of imperfect routines. They are meant to be returned to, not followed rigidly.

Ritual, for us, is about presence rather than performance. It’s about returning, repeating, connecting, deepening, strengthening … over time, in time, on time.

Turn everyday moments into rituals that bring your thoughts, feelings, intuition and actions into alignment.  This is how you evolve to be your best Self.

Thoroughly, gently and with intention.

What guides us

We believe trust is built through clarity. This means:
  • Clear ingredient lists
  • Honest language about what is known and unknown
  • Respect for plant lineages and cultural context
  • Careful positioning of psychoactive plants

Mantra continues to evolve alongside emerging research, legal context and community dialogue.

A shared inquiry

Mantra is shaped through conversation.

With practitioners, growers, researchers, facilitators and individuals who are asking thoughtful questions about how plants can be worked with responsibly in modern contexts.

This is not a finished philosophy. It is an ongoing inquiry.

Mantra is a social experiment. We do business the way we wish the world would: obsessed with sustainable, honest, real, high-potency, ethically-produced products. Obsessed with happy customers and making a real difference. Obsessed with reclaiming enjoyment and integrity in business.

Stay close to the ritual

Occasional notes on plants, practice and what we are learning along the way. No noise. No pressure. Just thoughtful, poignantly-timed sharing.

Mantra products are intended to support general wellbeing. They are not medicines and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you are pregnant, nursing, have a medical condition or take medication, consult a qualified healthcare professional before use.
